One of the former leaders of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), known as Jesus Santrich, is threatening to kill President Ivan Duque, NTN24 reported.
The TV channel has a video of Santrich saying: “Memento mori, Duque” (“Remember death”). The video was recorded on 13 February. The recording begins with the leader of the armed group claiming that his Twitter account was supposedly closed by the government of Iván Duque .
“Before we had the Twitter account with the same name, but the ‘tyrant little pig’ could not bear the frankness and wanted to close it,” he says.
According to intelligence sources, the video was recorded nine days ago in Venezuelan territory, specifically in Bolívar state on the border with Colombia.
In 2019, Santrich left Colombian territory, apparently in Venezuela with consent of the Nicolás Maduro regime. That same year Interpol issued a warrant to locate and capture the former head of the FARC in any of the 194 member countries of the organization. He is wanted for aggravated conspiracy to commit a crime and aggravated trafficking, manufacture or possession of narcotics.
The FARC was created in 1964 as the military wing of the local Communist Party to fight to build the “New Colombia” – a society of social justice and equality. The ranks of the group consisted of up to 20,000 fighters.
The authorities and the rebels spent a long time negotiating peace, which ended with the signing of a peace agreement. In 2017, on the basis of the FARC, the Common Revolutionary Alternative Force political party was officially created.
