Ukrainian officials reported on Tuesday that Russian troops have launched missile attacks on the east-central Dnipropetrovsk region. They also confirmed that Kyiv forces have repelled a Russian assault on one of the few pockets inside the Luhansk region still controlled by Kyiv – the village of Bilohorivka.
The representative from the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination on the ceasefire later on Tuesday accused Ukrainian forces of shelling the city of Donetsk in Donbas with 155mm caliber artillery, CNN reports quoting the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti.
According to the news hub, the 155mm caliber shells found on the terrain suggest they were fired from Western-supplied equipment since neither Russia nor other former Soviet countries use artillery of that caliber unlike NATO countries, including the US.
DPR official’s reports on the alleged strikes were later confirmed by videos geolocated by CNN in the same area the strikes and showing billowing smoke from the Kamaz center in Donetsk and continuous explosions – suggesting ammo could have been stored in the facility – posted on social media though Ukrainian officials have yet to comment the incidents.
Meanwhile, the pro-Russian DPR forces also claimed previously on Monday that three people were killed and another 27 injured in a Ukrainian artillery attack on a local railway station in Donbas
